As part of the "permanent collection," an experimental project of in situ works located throughout the building, this young couple of artists have conceived a sauna made for viewing video art. Two current artists-in-residence at Mains d’Œuvres, Ivan Argote and Pauline Bastard are developing a body of artistic research on the way in which video art is shown.
They explain : "We had to come up with a space necessitating a special concentration, isolated from the world, able to accommodate a limited number of viewers, in which they could sit, let their bodies unclench, and feel time pass, and in which the air is ionized. THE SAUNA allows an awareness of the space and of the duration of the time the video is shown, the mechanism and the context become as important as the video itself : THE SAUNA is a response, an affirmation, that makes the video’s content felt. In a certain sense, in "The Sauna," we embody the video."

With this project, Ivan Argote and Pauline Bastard propose a new contemporary art space in which they invite several curators to conceive video programs.
